I want to be a writer, I've wanted to be a writer since I learned how to read. I'm currently writing a story about an artist that's off his rocker, I'd give you more details, but I think I have a really good idea here, and I don't want it stolen.
Anyway when I'm done I'm going to try to get it published, so I want to get your opinions on my writing. So here's a paragraph from near the begining.
'He stood alone in the attic of his home, moonlight filtering in through the small leaded window, as he stood staring at the macabre display of carved bones in front of him. Some stacked on the floor, others wired, or bolted together on top of them, all the bones coming together perfectly to make one giant sculpture that seemed to defy gravity. With the skulls of previous victims peppered throughout the display. Quietly he thought about where to place his new trophy, the skull of a child that he carefully held in his hands, he believed that she deserved a special place within his arrangement being that she was his youngest victim thus far. He stood motionless staring into bones, searching for that perfect spot, and finally after a seeming eternity, he lifted his the skull and placed it in the center of his sculpture, it rested in a small opening in the bones that stood over five feet off the floor. The spot was perfect for her, because no matter where your eyes started on the display, they would always be drawn to the center, to that special skull. He repositioned it slightly, making sure it faced the room like the others, because after all, this was his greatest work, and it had to be perfect.'
I want to do the whole story like that, with no actual dialog, simply describing all that's going on around the characters, and what they're doing. I considered doing it the old fashoned way, but doing things the way everyone else is, simply isn't my style.
So basically what I really want to know is how many of you think I could actually write a successful story like that, how many of you might actually bother to read it if I did manage to get published, and any other opinions and/or creative criticisms you might have.
(... Sorry for being so long winded, but I'm nervous.)
(Oh, and I've posted this on a couple other boards too, so if you see it somewhere else it's just because I'm trying to get as much input as possible.)
